Certain applications may require the use of a hub-centric spacer up front, to clear the strut tube. Customers with E46's did not need any spacer up front when used with tires up to 255/40/17

A 5 or 10mm spacer may be required for extra wide r-compound setups or some high performance summer tires on the E36 and Z3.  But most street tires fit without rubbing.  Some E36 Customers running AST 5000 series suspensions have commented that a spacer is required up front for spring perch clearance.

Suspension components, camber, ride height, and tire size all effect fitment.  It's also common for E36 owners to roll their rear fenders when running a meaty tire on an  8.5" wheel for added clearance.
