Anyone who has followed the NASA German Touring Series (GTS) or BMW CCA Club Racing over the years knows the field is littered with E36 and E46 M3 chassis. These machines are proven to be a competitive and cost effective weapon for capable drivers to reach the podium, and although every build is a bit unique, you could say recipes for success are pretty well documented.

When Tyler Pappas, owner of TYSPEED in Jackson New Jersey, contacted us with the idea of turning his relatively new and unmolested 2017 M2 into a fire breathing club racer, we knew this was not going to be your average build and we wanted in. Tyler understood he was entering into uncharted territory, and I think that is part of the excitement and appeal of such an undertaking. In effort to share some of the knowledge with the community he documented his team’s progress on Bimmerpost, and like all projects worth pursuing it was not without speed bumps along the way.

This M2 race car was built to crush the competition, featuring our new M2 specific 18″ APEX FL-5 wheels. Like Tyler’s M2, these wheels push the boundaries of traditional flow formed wheels by incorporating dual flow forming as well as “I” beam spokes. These features reduce weight while increasing structural rigidity to stand up to the relentless abuse this car would endure while on track. As an authorized JRZ Suspension dealer, APEX also provided the car with one of our custom suspension packages that features JRZ RS PRO dampers with external reservoirs as the centerpiece.
